El Calafate…

…is a bit of a dump so we were glad to only have one night there. We stayed in a hotel called El Splendor which from the outside looked like a prison set against a bleak barron landscape. However, El Calafate does have one thing going for it….the Perito Moreno Glacier…which is one of the most strikingly beautiful places I have ever seen. We sat there for ages just watching it and listening to the thunderous noise that it makes every time a piece cracks apart and falls into the water. It was an incredible show – like a natural firework display.
